There is a man who is blissfully content Who does not set out on life’s journey By following the advice of some complete scoundrels Nor does he persist in sticking to paths carved out by known criminals And so he will not then arrive in some festering den of thieves. But, he has been trained carefully by the Everlasting One And he delights in this education - Thinking of it often both during the day and night. It has become like a sign-post at an inn offering refreshing rest From which good things come at just the right time - And his clothes never get soiled or worn out For everything he does makes him bloom with joy. Not so with the utterly scandalous - not so! - Who are like useless chaff Completely blown away by the dry desert wind These total misleaders will not stand, unshaking, When they reach their destination Nor will they have arrived at the same destiny As the innocent travellers; For the Everlasting One knows entirely How the innocent have journeyed through life. And, for the others? The route taken, and the way of live chosen Has led them only to die Lost in a desert wasteland.
