after Psalm 64 (Hebrew) / 63 (Greek)
A babble of voices Viciously pouring cursed contempt Engulfing an innocent's life In bile and blood-soaked faeces; From fear, cover me Their secret schemes Nefarious plots of smiling evil A maddened mob of angry agitators And I am caught in the open; From cross-hairs, hide me Torrents of endless abuse from poison-tipped tongues Lisping sharpened shards of acid bitterness Cut deep into an innocent's flesh Their arrows racing from mouth'd dank darkness Fly unseen in ambush at the trembling one; Where are You? Reason un-reasoned by evil re-echoed Gibbering ghosts laying unexpected snares Giggling, hooting, hissing 'who can see us?' As Justice seeks them now naked sans screen'd anonymity; Can You see them? One man, eyed, is much as another Pry deep within and uncover the bloody sang The pulsing heart of mischanced wisdom Whose calcinated cavern dies in depths Invisible to all; But not to Him who sees all A final fatal arrow flies from brightest light To penumbral tenebrae shot suddenly A heart siezed, ceases to pulse its evil purpose Passes out, paid in full If such a tongue could talk saying, 'Did I enact such a death?' Men, un-marched from their mayhem'd madness Stop, dropping ready stones by age Heads droop - hands fall - and shake A crime scene of bloodied deeds planned Serenaded by bitterest songs of lament Of God and men; 'Think on this' She stooped still cast in spittle A smile warming her haggard face Hidden here in the wings of His linen 'My dearest, you are innocent' A heart of truth not belied A hope not lost but refound.
