Emily Bronteโs mid-19th century novel of the darknesses at the dark of some folk, encountering love and hate. Set in the darkness of an everlasting winter in the moorlands of Yorkshire. A novel that stands alone, head and shoulders above others, particularly anything into and beyond the 20th century. One of the top 50 novels I would take to a desert island - or perhaps a windswept Atlantic stormโd wasteland off the north west coast of Scotland.
A novel that places you on the stage, listening into the words and seeing the actions of the cast. But, even the worst that men can do, cannot ultimately succeed. Worth reading to get to the denoument, where it resolves as Heathcliffโs life draws to a strange end.
